Occupation(s) writer, director

Jonathan Krisel is a co-creator, writer and director of Portlandia. After graduating from NYU's Film School he created a Brooklyn cable access series entitled HyperDimensional Fortress. His obsession with cable access, industrial films, video art and animation was a perfect fit when Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim came looking for someone to help them make the AdultSwim show "Tom Goes to

the Mayor". There Jonathan transitioned to directing.

In 2007 Jonathan segued into the role of director and co-exec producer of the "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" Again, Jonathan also edited, animated and worked on the writing staff. In 2009, Jonathan also started making acclaimed shorts for funnyordie.com, such as "Rich Dicks" and "Ed Hardy Boyz" with comedian Nick Kroll. "Rich Dicks" went on to be developed as a comedy Central pilot. Jonathan also co-directed, co-exec produced and edited on the AdultSwim spin off "Check it Out with Steve Brule" starring John C. Reilly. Jonathan then joined the staff of "Saturday Night Live" where he directed many digital shorts such as "The Curse" starring Jon Hamm, and "Zach Drops By The Set" starring Zach Galifianakis.

Most recently in the summer of 2010, Krisel co-developed, co-exec produced, co-wrote, and directed the pilot of "Portlandia" for the IFC Network, which starred Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, and was executive produced by Lorne Michaels. He just finished directing and editing all of the episodes for season 1, and is currently back at Saturday Night Live making more digital shorts, and working on the writing staff. [1]
